Cameron: I’ll steal Brown’s ground now

Nicholas Watt writes in The Observer:

David Cameron today launches an audacious bid to dislodge Gordon Brown as the champion of progressive politics in Britain when he declares that the Tories are best placed to tackle poverty and to protect the environment.

Cameron added: ‘The Conservative party is this force for progressive politics. Ask yourself who is making the running on civil liberties and the need to get rid of ID cards; it is us. Ask who is making the running on the environment and the politics of well being; it is us. Who is pushing hardest on flexibility at work? It is the Conservative party.’

  1. David Moss Says:

No, no, that was this morning. You’ve got to keep up with the times.

This morning the Conservatives wanted to be more like Labour than Labour and they got … oh, let’s see … 2 out of 3. The environment — more Labour than Labour. Flexibility at work — more Labour than Labour. ID cards — oops, Labour want them, the Conservatives, less Labour than Labour.

But then that all changed and now the Conservatives are after all quite definitely not the heirs to Blair, see Hold your nerve, Cameron to urge.

Another day, another image? Maybe. Or they could try just being the Conservative Party.
