Consultation? Only with those who already agree…
The head of the Home Office’s ID project team told me last Thursday that none of the companies she had met had felt the scheme was ill-advised or unfeasible. But concerned people in business tell me she refuses to meet them!
This is shocking, but not surprising. Often those with the biggest ears are the deafest…
The Ideal Government post lists some of the large IT businesses which find the ID scheme to be ill-advised or unfeasible. Not that we expect the government to listen to us.
Remember – they are also claiming to listen to us about health and education issues. Judge them by what they do, not by what they say they do!

To make a decision and then to ‘consult’ seems to the usual way of doing things at all levels of government.
A big decision was recently made by my local counil without making clear the details (and only admitting it after the plan was leaked).
The decision duly made, the council made some pathetic excuses that it ‘consulted’ (asked a few of those affected apparently, but leaving out whole sections).
Now the consultation has just begun officially, but consists of tyring to pacify those who have complained.
