As reported by AP and picked up by papers across the South: House votes to eliminate fingerprints on licenses

Republican sponsors say the prints are seldom used by law enforcement and that the print database raises identity theft concerns.

    It is interesting to note that the only reason this legislation isn’t taking immediate effect is to avoid breaking a contract with computer firms.

    Will we be locked into ten or twenty years of ID cards even when they turn out to be a monumental disaster?
