Blunkett in ID card row with privacy watchdog

More on David Blunkett’s spokesman’s personal attack on the Information Commissioner, Richard Thomas in the Evening Standard.
Shadow Home Secretary David Davis called the attack “irresponsible”.
The Information Commissioner oversees the Data Protection Act. His duties include “developing respect for the private lives of individuals”.

Watchdog’s ‘alarm’ over ID cards

The BBC reports the Information Commissioner’s growing concern as details of the ID cards scheme emerge.
Richard Thomas said he had initially greeted the plans with “healthy scepticism” but the details had changed his view to “increasing alarm”.

Identity crisis as ID trial gets brush off

Yakub Qureshi in Scotland on Sunday reports that the UKPS biometrics trial is having difficulty recruiting enough volunteers.
