BMA raises objections to ID cards
A brief summary of the British Medical Association’s reservations about the ID cards scheme, as stated to the Home Affairs Select Committee:
The BMA does not want GPs to become unofficial immigration inspectors and is opposed to any idea of linking medical records with the ID card or its supporting database. The BMA also claims that the ID card is being justified in terms of ‘health tourism’ when there are no official figures that quantify the scale of the problem.
